My client is looking for a Tax Specialist based at the Head Office. The position reports to the Financial Controller .
The successful incumbent will be responsible for all tax matters in the group, including computations, preparation and submission of direct and indirect tax returns, as well as strategic planning to achieve tax efficiencies and savings.
Key Performance Areas
- Ensure full compliance with all tax laws and regulations across all entities of the Group.
- Accurately prepare and submit all tax returns on time.
- Stay fully informed of existing tax legislation, proposed changes, or new taxes affecting the company.
- Seek opportunities for tax savings and profitability improvements without increasing tax risk or damaging the company's reputation.
- Prepare income tax computations and VAT cash flow and balance sheet calculations for monthly reporting, profit estimates, budgets, and strategic plans.
- Calculate and accrue for taxes monthly and at year-end, and prepare related journals.
- Analyze variances between budgets/forecasts and actual results, providing commentary.
- Report potential tax risks to the Audit Committee and Group Tax to prevent penalties and interest.
- Provide progress reports to government authorities as required.
- Perform monthly reconciliations of current and deferred tax in the general ledger.
- Calculate current and deferred tax liabilities for all local companies.
- Prepare and review tax pack schedules and submissions, including income tax, provisional tax, VAT, and Carbon Tax returns to SARS.
- Consolidate VAT returns submitted by company entities.
- Monitor systems and controls impacting tax compliance and conduct annual compliance reviews across various taxes.
- Advise staff on tax issues and provide training to ensure competence in tax matters.
- Contribute to initiatives affecting the company's tax profile and industry.
Minimum Requirements
- A qualified CA (SA) with post-graduate tax qualification or B. Com with post-graduate tax qualification.
- At least 5 years of accounting and tax experience.
- Extensive knowledge of South African tax laws, including withholding taxes and double tax treaties.
- Experience with tax accounting and reporting at a consolidated level.
- Strong accounting, reporting, and analytical skills.
- Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and reasoning skills.
- Ability to manage multiple stakeholders and prioritize tasks effectively.
- Demonstrates a culture of safety, quality, teamwork, and effective communication.
