Overview
We are searching for a Registered Nurse who will render and promote cost effective, safe quality patient care in accordance with hospital or doctor's practice standards and policies. The team member will further be responsible for assessing, planning, executing and supervising the implementation of care to meet patient needs. The Registered Nurse is a role model in the delivery of evidence-based care. The Registered Nurse will actively participate in Clinical Governance. The team member will be responsible for direct and/or indirect nursing care of a patient or group of patients. The team member will perform nursing duties in accordance with the South African Nursing Council (SANC), Department of Health (DOH) and National Core standards.
Responsibilities Support the patient on their arrival into the ward, pre-and post-operatively
Monitor a patient\'s physiological parameters
Provide appropriate treatment until the patient has recovered from the effects of the anaesthesia and/or surgery
Assess the patient in order to ensure they have recovered and can be discharged
Evaluate the care given during each phase
Contribute to the holistic care of patients
Effective Risk prevention and management
Effective communication with patients regarding their care
The promotion of health and wellbeing
Practice the principles of infection prevention and all standard precautions
Promote and maintains good public relations with patients, relatives and visitors
Provide and supervise the delivery of evidence-based nursing care
Ensure that all patients have an appropriate nursing care plan
Communicate with Health Care Practitioners regarding any change in health status
Compliance with documentation policy
Ongoing audit of health records to ensure compliance
Ensure all stock is well controlled and managed, charged and credited appropriately
Maintain a therapeutic, clean and safe environment that is free from medico-legal hazards
Maintain a safe working environment in accordance with the Machinery and Occupational Safety Act
Assume responsibility for own personal and professional development
Assume responsibility for maintaining competence in CPR (BLS/ ACLS)
Project a positive professional image
Promote and maintain good working and interpersonal relationships with management, colleagues and doctors
Mentoring and supervision of junior healthcare providers and support staff
Facilitation of a learning environment
Experience in wound care will be advantageous.
Patient education on post op wound care.
Facilitate the prescription of medication between patient and Doctor.
Wound inspection.
Data capturing
Stock control. Requirements Grade 12 or equivalent NQF level 4 qualification.
Diploma in General Nursing.
Current registration with the South African Nursing Council (SANC).
Minimum of 5 years as an experience as a Registered Nurse.
Post-operative And Surgical Experience Is Essential. Must have recent clinical experience.
Experience within a private hospital environment is advantageous.
Skilled in all basic nursing procedures as well as procedures specific to the operating theatre environment
Strong knowledge of surgical procedures and patient safety
Extensive knowledge of modern nursing care principles and practices in the post-surgical environment.
To demonstrate an understanding of the surgical procedure by anticipating the needs of the multi-disciplinary team members.
