Purpose of the Role
To accurately and efficiently pick, check, and stage frozen products according to customer orders, offsite stock and dispatch requirements, ensuring product quality, accuracy, and adherence to cold chain standards.
Key Responsibilities
• Order Picking:
o Pick frozen stock according to picking slips or system-generated orders (FIFO principle).
o Pick frozen stock according to offsite load sheet (FIFO principle).
o Ensure correct product, quantity, and batch/expiry date are picked.
o Adhere to target pick rates and maintain accuracy.
• Stock Control:
o Report stock shortages, damages, and variances immediately.
o Participate in daily/weekly cycle counts and stock takes.
o Assist with stock rotation to maintain product freshness.
• Product Handling:
o Handle products carefully to prevent damage or contamination.
o Ensure products remain within required temperature ranges during picking.
o Use proper PPE (freezer suit, gloves, boots, etc.) at all times.
o Report all damaged and non-conforming products to supervisor immediately
• Dispatch Preparation:
o Stage completed orders correctly in dispatch areas.
o Verify picked orders against delivery notes/invoices.
o Assist with loading of vehicles as required.
• Housekeeping & Safety:
o Maintain cleanliness in the freezer and staging areas.
o Follow all health and safety regulations, including HACCP and cold storage protocols.
o Report any unsafe conditions, equipment faults, or incidents immediately.
Skills & Competencies
Good attention to detail and accuracy. Physically fit and able to work in –18°C conditions. Ability to follow instructions and work within time constraints. Basic literacy and numeracy skills. Team player with a responsible and proactive attitude.
Minimum Requirements
Grade 12 / Matric. Minimum 1 year experience in a freezer or cold storage picking environment. Experience with WMS, or handheld scanners (advantageous). Knowledge of FIFO/FEFO and cold chain handling. Hyster license required
