Introduction
Applications are invited for the position of Head of Operations: Gauteng (Prescribed Officer) (Peromnes Grade 5) based at OR Tambo Air Traffic Control Centre. The successful applicant will be reporting to the Chief Operating Officer. The purpose of this role is to provide strategic and operational leadership to the Gauteng ATS teams in the conceptualisation, development, implementation, and management of a regional strategy and policies aligned to the vision and overall business strategy of ATNS.
Key Responsibilities
Strategy and Implementation: Provides strategic and operational leadership to ensure achievement of Air Traffic Management Service Delivery and overall ATNS business strategy. Develop, implement, and articulate the regional strategy aligned to operations and business strategies. Manage the implementation of the regional management strategy to ensure objectives are achieved.
Operationalisation of the Regional ATS: Build and maintain strong business relationships with customers. Ensure effective integration and implementation of all Regional Management’s workstreams. Ensure delivery of Air Traffic Services in accordance with regulations and standards.
Governance, Risks, Compliance & Reporting: Manage and implement a robust governance framework. Monitor compliance with all ATNS policies and procedures. Prepare strategic level reports for the COO and other stakeholders.
Stakeholders Management: Build and nurture relationships with stakeholders. Ensure effective leadership in managing operational costs. Promote high levels of discipline and performance standards.
Required Minimum Qualifications and Experience
- Air traffic control qualification (aerodrome control, or approach control, or area control)
- Post graduate qualification in Business Management or related field.
- Minimum 8 years of experience in managing air traffic management operations, with at least 5 years at management level.
Alternative Qualifications: Candidates without a postgraduate qualification may apply if they have:
- Air traffic control qualification (aerodrome control, or approach control, or area control)
- National Diploma or Degree in Business Management or related field or Leadership/Management Development Program certificate from an accredited institution.
- Minimum 10 years of experience in managing air traffic management operations, with at least 7 years at management level.
Note: Candidates appointed with alternative qualifications must be prepared to undergo compulsory development to achieve the required postgraduate qualification within three years.
