My client in the energy industry is looking for a Project Developer with wind AND solar experience, to join their team in Cape Town.
The successful candidate will be responsible for identifying and securing new project opportunities in the region, establishing the project structure, bringing the projects to financial close and start of construction.
Duties will include, but are not limited to, the following: Business Development Develop an in-depth understanding of the region’s power markets and opportunities for both utility-scale wind and solar PV projects in the markets, with a focus on Wind related projects Develop relationships with authorities, regulators and utilities Identify and nurture relationships with local/regional developers, brokers, banks, contractors, etc.
to identify project opportunities Identify, screen and evaluate new business and project opportunities including: Project specific financial models and investment memos Optimal technical solutions with technical teams Risk assessments related to the projects, including real estate risks, political risks, permitting and environmental risks, and financial risks and corresponding mitigation strategies Negotiate with prospective partners and establish project development or acquisition agreements Support the process of Project Finance preparation for the projects Support the process of Execution preparation for the projects Land acquisition and data analysis Secure project land Secure substation land Secure servitudes (if applicable) Conduct topo/geo/hydro studies Manage wind measurement campaigns Conduct layout and turbine optimisation processes Conduct yield analysis and evaluate wind resource assessment reports Permits, Licence and Authorizations Secure relevant Permits, Licenses and authorizations (PLAs) Conduct ESIA and develop ESAP Assess local community needs (e.g.
on education, health) Develop project initiatives to support local communities Offtake Obtain PPA and/or other offtake arrangements Obtain sovereign guarantees (if applicable) Establish SPV and legal project setup Interconnection Assess grid code requirements Identify Point of Connection (PoC) and conduct grid studies Assess land needs Obtain network connection agreement Business case and financing Estimate and optimize business case (incl.
insurance) Secure project equity and debt finance Optimize project tax structure Assess group treasury implications Ensure project development cost control Project governance and in-country setup Establish project governance mechanisms Conduct local partner background checks Set up local offices & bank accounts Recruit local resources Project acquisition due diligence Develop business case Run technical, legal & financial due diligence NON-NEGOTIABLE REQUIREMENTS: QUALIFICATIONS: Minimum: Degree in Commerce, Engineering, Law or other relevant fields EXPERIENCE: Minimum: 3 years project development and contract negotiation 5 years relevant experience Ideal: Working knowledge and understanding of Power Purchase Agreements, grid connections, permitting requirements, bidding processes and Project Financial modelling Previous experience in wind development and permitting, Financing and negotiating of Supply, EPC and O&M Agreements for wind projects SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Should be available and accustomed to travel extensively internationally to developing countries Must be able to work in an open plan environment Must be able to work extended hours Valid driver’s licence NON-NEGOTIABLE REQUIREMENTS: QUALIFICATIONS: Minimum: Degree in Commerce, Engineering, Law or other relevant fields EXPERIENCE: Minimum: 3 years project development and contract negotiation 5 years relevant experience Ideal: Working knowledge and understanding of Power Purchase Agreements, grid connections, permitting requirements, bidding processes and Project Financial modelling Previous experience in wind development and permitting, Financing and negotiating of Supply, EPC and O&M Agreements for wind projects SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Should be available and accustomed to travel extensively internationally to developing countries Must be able to work in an open plan environment Must be able to work extended hours Valid driver’s licence Read More...
