General Manager Services Purpose of The Job Effectively manage and lead the Service Department by securing and executing maintenance contracts and outage work of fans, air heaters and associated equipment to achieve the predetermined annual financial targets and to implement strategies for sustained growth.
JOB DESCRIPTION: ï‚· Prepare annual departmental budgets, track and authorize expenditure and effect necessary financial controls to ensure that the department meets or exceeds the agreed annual targeted sales, project margin and profitability ï‚· Effectively manage and control departmental personnel to achieve the company’s strategic objectives while at the same time ensuring staff are motivated, positive, focused and well informed ï‚· Continuously develop strategies for the Service Department to increase its offerings to the boiler industry thereby making out clients more reliant on Howden and thus ensuring sustainable growth within a captive market ï‚· Review, compile, approve and authorize tenders and menu pricing levels to achieve agreed project margins thereby ensuring that our dominant position in the market is not compromised through a perception of overcharging ï‚· To oversee the execution of site maintenance activities and projects thereby ensuring that they are executed in a profitable and controlled manner so that all elements of the project are completed within the agreed timeframe and within budget ï‚· Ensure that all contracts are negotiated and entered into adhere and comply with the company’s policies and procedures manual in order to ensure authority levels are maintained and minimize contract risk.
ï‚· Assure long term advanced planning of resources and equipment for the Service Department by ensuring that resources are in place and utilized efficiently in order to align with client long term outage plans.
ï‚· Manage the integration between Service Department, Spares, Procurement, Quality and suppliers to ensure that components are delivered to agreed programme.
ï‚· Formulate and agree on KRA’s annually with departmental personnel to ensure target objectives are met and training needs are identified, thereby ensuring continuous development and performance standards are maintained.
ï‚· Establishing relationship with clients to maintain customer satisfaction and assist in securing new orders / business and targeting new contracts.
ï‚· Manage and ensure adherence to health and safety standards in compliance with company policy, client’s and legislative requirements in order to provide a safe working environment for all employees.
QUALIFICATIONS / EXPERIENCE: ï‚· National Higher Diploma in Mechanical Engineering or BSc Mechanical Engineering.
ï‚· Business Management Diploma.
ï‚· MDP or MBA will be beneficial.
ï‚· 10 years general management experience within the power generation industry.
ï‚· At least 6 years people management experience.
ï‚· Project management qualification with experience of managing technical projects.
ï‚· In depth product knowledge of air heaters and fans (at least 5 years).
ï‚· Experience required in various disciplines (negotiation skills, commercial, financial, procurement & mechanical).
