Makerspace Technical Officer

This position is specifically suited to a dynamic person who enjoys both technology and working with people and who has the ability to inspire imagination and innovation. Working hours: Monday to Friday, 08:00-16:30 Duties: - Providing client service to the clients of the SU Library Makerspace; - Training in the use of the equipment in the Makerspace; - Developing the digital skills of SU students; - Providing support with respect to the use of 3D electronic equipment, tools and CAD software; - Detecting and reporting problems regarding software, printers, scanners and other IT functionalities; - Ensuring that the computer equipment, software and other tools in the Makerspace are functioning optimally and have a sufficient supply of consumables; - Marketing of Makerspace services, guides, programmes and other activities; - Maintenance and other administrative tasks as determined by the line manager. Job Requirements: - Diploma in Information Technology, or an equivalent qualification; - Minimum of two years experience working in an electronics or computer laboratory environment; - Experience in a client service role by assisting clients with queries of a technical and non-technical nature; - Knowledge of basic electronics (microcontrollers, layout of circuit boards, use of oscilloscopes); - Knowledge of hardware, basic data management and networks (cable management and WiFi); - Excellent interpersonal, liaising and marketing skills; - Excellent communication skills. Recommendation: - Bachelors Degree in Information Technology; - Knowledge of 3D modelling and prototyping using CAD software; - Experience working in a Makerspace or similar environment.
