Job Description Duties and responsibilities: Provides nursing care and flight medicine from the initial contact until patient care is relinquished to the accepting medical facility; maintains thorough patient care documentation. Evaluates the condition of critically ill patients upon flight arrival and commencing with treatment.
Responsible for careful assessment and monitoring of patient vital signs watching for sudden or subtle changes in the medical condition that might require emergency intervention. Performing advanced critical care interventions and monitoring vitals throughout the flight. Responsible for ensuring that there is an appropriate medical handover of patients. Takes an inventory of medical supplies, instruments, and medication, as well as replenishes stocks on the aircraft. Ensures that onboard medical equipment functions properly and that regular maintenance is performed Liaise with medical facilities to coordinate the safe preparation of patients for handover and medical transportation.
To also coordinate receiving care for clients upon arrival to their destination. Focus on quality of service, ensuring that the highest possible levels are achieved for the patient. Maintain accurate and confidential Patient files in accordance with Iqarus policies and procedures and Nursing regulatory requirements for documentation as per registration. Stays up to date with the latest developments in the practice of in-flight trauma care. Qualifications All medical staff shall be fluent in spoken and written English at least comparable to Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) level B2.
One of the medical crew members, preferably the flight surgeon, should be capable to speak fluently at level B2 French as it is the most used language in the AOO. All personnel data (including rotation personnel) must be provided for security accreditation screening at least 6 weeks before their deployment.
These must be written in English or French. All staff deployed must be medically fit for deployment on the place of operation. All medical staff dedicated to AE shall hold a certification of specific AE-training, approved by an EU MS or recognizable as EU equivalent. Crew must comply with BEL Defence prophylactic, as well as national and local COVID measures.
Personnel must comply with the latest COVID vaccination policy in force in Belgium.
COVID policies may vary during the implementation period. If the policy change induces extra cost, prior agreement by the End-User is required. 2 years of experience in an emergency department. Diploma in nursing recognized within the European Union or in the following countries: Israel, Canada, United Kingdom, United States of America, South Africa, Australia, New-Zealand, Switzerland, or Norway. Diploma in critical care nursing and emergency medical service care recognized within the European Union or in the following countries: Israel, Canada, United Kingdom, United States of America, South Africa, Australia, New-Zealand, Switzerland, Norway. ATLS (Advanced Trauma Life Support) or ETC (European Trauma Course) or PHTLS (Prehospital Trauma Life Support) or ITLS (International Trauma Life Support) ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support) or ALS (Advanced Life Support) Experience in blood administration in remote settings Minimum of 5 years' experience acquired within the last 7 years in an acute medicine setting (remote setting preferred) with onboard flight medicine experience.
12 months deployment prior to the mission without any clinical exposure to patients is not allowed.
At least 500 hours/ year of clinical exposure to patients prior to the mission must be proven. Additional Information Key Skills: Excellent interpersonal, communication and record-keeping skills Excellent IT skills including use of electronic medical records systems. Fluency in English Essential Capabilities: Advanced ability to accurately evaluate, treat, and monitor critically ill patients under pressure. Ability to work within a multi-disciplined team, with clinical and non-clinical personnel.
