This is not a "keep the lights on" maintenance role.
You will be the technical anchor for the organization's SQL Server environment.
The core challenge is to transition from reactive management to proactive optimization.
You will ensure that the financial data backbone of the company is not only secure and available but performing at a level that accelerates business decision-making.
You will be instrumental in designing High Availability architectures and automating workflows to minimize risk and downtime.
Performance Objectives for Year One Achieve "Always-On" Stability: Architect and refine the High Availability (HA) and Disaster Recovery (DR) strategies, specifically utilizing Always On Availability Groups and Failover Clustering, to ensure near-zero downtime for business-critical applications.
Drive Performance Optimization: Lead a comprehensive audit of current database performance; identify bottlenecks and implement query, index, and resource tuning to measurably improve application response times.
Modernize through Automation: Design and implement Power Shell scripts to automate repetitive administrative tasks (patching, backups, health checks), significantly reducing manual overhead and human error.
Enhance Security & Compliance: Review and restructure access controls and permissions across Development and Production environments to ensure strict adherence to financial services compliance standards.
Mentor and Elevate the Team: Act as a technical subject matter expert, providing documented standards and mentorship to junior team members and developers regarding database best practices.
Profile for Success Proven Reliability: A minimum of 5 years of experience managing enterprise-grade SQL Server environments (Standard and Enterprise editions).
Architectural Expertise: Demonstrated success in designing and maintaining complex HA/DR solutions (Always On, Clustering, Log Shipping).
Technical Depth: Advanced proficiency in T-SQL, performance tuning, and Power Shell scripting.
Data Stack Knowledge: Hands-on experience with the BI stack (SSRS, SSIS, SSAS) and familiarity with Windows Server infrastructure.
