The Southern African Institute of Welding seeks to employ a dynamic and strategic Executive Director (ED) to lead our organisation through its next phase of growth. The ED will be responsible for setting the overall strategic direction, driving corporate development, and overseeing the day-to-day operations of the business to ensure alignment with long-term objectives.
This role requires an experienced leader with expertise in business management, development, operations, financial oversight, compliance, and organisational growth . The ideal candidate will demonstrate a strong ability to manage key business functions, optimise operational efficiency, and ensure financial sustainability while driving innovation and industry leadership. Key Responsibilities Strategic Leadership & Business Development Develop and execute corporate strategies to achieve long-term business growth and sustainability.
Identify and pursue new business opportunities, partnerships, and revenue streams.
Expand opportunities both locally and internationally, including launching and maintaining certification and training programs.
Oversee marketing, branding, and corporate communications, including social media, press relations, and industry events. Business & Financial Management Manage the organisation’s overall business operations, ensuring efficiency and profitability.
Oversee financial planning, budgeting, forecasting, and reporting.
Develop and implement financial controls, ensuring cost-effective operations and revenue growth.
Ensure compliance with corporate governance, legal requirements, and financial audits.
Drive continuous improvement and ensure organisational risk management. Stakeholder & Client Engagement Build and maintain strong relationships with the Board, shareholders, regulatory bodies, and key industry stakeholders.
Represent the organisation in external engagements and industry forums.
Oversee customer feedback management, including complaint resolution and whistleblower reports. Operational & Compliance Management Implement and maintain ISO management systems (ISO 9001, ISO 45001, ISO 3834, ISO 17021/17024/17025) standards.
Oversee business process improvements, performance metrics, and operational efficiencies.
Ensure all business operations comply with South African regulations and industry best practices. Human Resources & Organisational Development Ensure compliance with South African labour laws, B-BBEE, Employment Equity, and other HR-related regulations.
Oversee HR processes, including employee relations, time and attendance, and company policies enforcement.
Manage organisational performance, training, and talent development initiatives. Minimum Requirements & Qualifications Engineering Degree (BEng, BSc Engineering) or Higher National Diploma in Engineering.
Minimum 10 years of executive-level business management experience in industry or relevant training environments. Strong financial acumen, including budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting.
In-depth knowledge of business operations, including governance, risk management, and compliance.
Experience in ISO management systems and SHEQ standards.
Strong leadership and strategic decision‑making skills.
Familiarity with South African labour laws, B‑BBEE, and compliance regulations.
Excellent communication skills with experience engaging Boards, shareholders, and external stakeholders. Preferred/Advantageous Master of Business Administration (MBA). #J-18808-Ljbffr
