About the Company
This position supports a joint initiative between two international energy organizations under a national program focused on deploying energy storage solutions to the grid. The companies involved provide Owner's Site Services (OSS) to three awarded projects within the program. One entity oversees global strategy, asset management, and development across regions including Europe, Africa, the Middle East, Asia, and the Americas. The other, based locally since 2011, is a fully integrated independent power producer specializing in the development, financing, construction, and operation of renewable energy projects across Sub-Saharan Africa.
Role Purpose
The Project Management Officer (PMO) is responsible for enforcing and overseeing project governance, control frameworks, risk management, and resource planning. The PMO ensures compliance, performance tracking, reporting, and standardisation across the full lifecycle of large-scale renewable energy construction projects.
Key Responsibilities:
Project Governance & Compliance
- Ensure uniform use of project management tools and adherence to governance frameworks.
- Interface with all project teams and contractors to monitor compliance with scheduling, risk, and cost protocols.
- Maintain consistency across project documentation, tools, and organisational roles.
- Contribute to process development and alignment.
Performance Monitoring & Reporting
- Deliver objective and accurate reporting across project domains.
- Analyse and present data to inform project strategy and performance improvements.
- Conduct variance analyses and scenario planning.
- Alert project leadership to deviations and propose corrective actions.
Resource Planning & Management
- Create and maintain an up-to-date project resource plan and organogram.
- Oversee contractor resource plans and integration across teams.
- Maintain work breakdown structures (WBS) and other key project hierarchies.
Schedule & Cost Control
- Coordinate all planning and scheduling activities.
- Manage the risk and schedule reporting processes of all contractors.
- Define physical progress metrics and ensure alignment across disciplines.
- Provide forecasts and support strategic decisions with scenario modelling.
Risk Management
- Develop and maintain the project risk matrix.
- Conduct risk identification, analysis, and reporting with the wider team.
- Maintain consistency between risk quantification and project contingency.
Health, Safety & Environmental Compliance
- Promote safe work practices and risk mitigation across all teams.
- Ensure staff understand their responsibilities regarding health, safety, and environmental compliance.
Qualifications & Certifications
- Degree in Construction Management or Engineering.
- Tertiary qualification in Project Management.
- Minimum 5 years in large-scale construction project environments.
- Minimum 5 years in project management/control.
- Certified in project control disciplines such as cost, schedule, risk, and earned value.
- At least 2 years in renewable energy construction projects preferred.
- PMP, SACPCMP (Pr. CPM, Pr. Eng, or equivalent) preferred.
- Additional certifications such as CCP, EVP, PRMP, CEP, PSP, DRMP, IPMO-P preferred.
- Proficiency in project scheduling software (MS Project, Primavera P6) mandatory.
- Solid contract knowledge (FIDIC, NEC).
- Strong understanding of construction technologies in renewable energy.
