Summary of Role:
The Grid & Electrical Engineer will be based in the Cape Town office and will be a member of the Engineering team. The role involves working across the Project Development Life Cycle (all stages of the GDS), providing technical support to Operations and Maintenance teams from a grid perspective. The engineer will liaise regularly with internal stakeholders and external partners, and will assume a lead Project Engineering role across a project portfolio from Development to Construction.

Responsibilities:
Grid:
- Ensure Grid Compliance by engaging with OEMs to determine plant specifications.
- Approve technical content of OEM changes and prepare specifications for new additions.
- Prepare documentation for RETEC submissions and liaise with RETEC and SBO regarding evaluations.
- Manage exemption requests, evaluate new products, and perform regular tests to ensure compliance with Grid Codes.
- Support construction on utility interactions, grid connection, and energisation.
- Audit handover documentation and assist with NERSA audits.
- Conduct Grid assessments, manage applications, and liaise with Eskom.
Electrical:
- Provide conceptual and detailed electrical & grid designs for renewable energy projects.
- Assist in reviewing technical design packages and assume a lead Project Engineering role.
- Review and manage Employer’s Requirements (ERs), participate in their updates, and liaise with regional teams.
- Engage with external consultants, produce reports, and ensure activities meet safety and quality standards.
Qualifications:
- Degree in Electrical Engineering.
- Minimum five years’ experience in project engineering for renewable energy projects.
- Valid registration with ECSA.
- Experience with medium & high voltage plant design, Grid Code compliance, and technical specifications.
- Excellent communication, report writing, IT skills, and ability to work under pressure.
- Unencumbered passport, driver’s license, and availability for travel and responsive communication.
